Hassiena Marriott takes on a new leadership role at Global Teachers Institute Global Teachers Institute is pleased to announce the newly appointed Executive Director, Mrs Hassiena Marriott. Hassiena Marriott has been a master in the education sector and taught for 20 years in primary and high schools and in both public and private schools, specializing in Mathematics, Physical Sciences, and Life Sciences. She holds a Bachelor of Pedagogy Science degree from the University of Kwa Zulu Natal and a Master’s in Education degree from the University of Witwatersrand. She was the senior project manager for teacher development at BRIDGE Innovation in Learning Organization and currently holds a director title for RISE Upliftment projects in the Drakensberg.
Before this promotion, Hassiena served as the GTI Head of Education, and as a valued member of the executive leadership team since 2020. She has consistently demonstrated her commitment to the mission of the GTI and she displays a real understanding of the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead in the education sector.
With a distinguished career spanning 2 decades in education, Hassiena Marriott brings a wealth of experience and expertise to this crucial role. Her proven leadership, strategic vision, and dedication to Global Teachers Institute and education as a whole make her a valuable addition to the executive team. In her new role, Hassiena Marriott will oversee the fundraising through corporates as well as manage partnerships and influence policies. Her main aim is to help change the education system for the better. Her track record of driving growth and innovation aligns seamlessly with GTI’s goals and values. She has a passion for building partnerships with like-minded organizations, is a social activist, and has a strong hunger for pursuing social justice. She thrives in her overarching goal to produce young teachers who can inspire others through their love for learning and creating an impact through education. She aims to nurture these young teachers to become role models in their communities, thus creating a ripple effect on the youth, young adults, and young learners.
GTI’s mission is to develop empathetic, socially responsible teachers for high-need African schools through school-based teacher education programs, projects, and interventions for replication and scale. Hassiena has partnered up with GTI through a shared vision to impact the nation through education empowerment. Hassiena stands true to her words, “I use the fire within me to light the fire in others so that together we can brighten up the world.”
