Apply to the US Internship Programme 2018

GTI’s US Internship Programme is designed for student-teachers and novice teachers from the South African Extraordinary Schools Coalition to spend a one-month residency in a high performing school in the United States. Interns are exposed to a variety of different teaching methods and conduct Action-Based Research on a topic of their choice and interest. Interns present their research findings to the host school and upon return at the Axis Education Summit.

We are now accepting applications for our San Francisco Educator Exchange Program dates for 2017: Placement in host schools in San Francisco from 2 March to 1 April 2018.

Note that the deadline for applications is 2 November 2017.

The following costs are all covered by the programme:

  • International airfare
  • Visa costs
  • Travel insurance
  • Cellphones in the US
  • Weekly spending allowance while in the US
  • A placement at a high performing school
  • Placement at a host family
  • All meals provided during the stay

Admission Requirements

The ideal Future Leader candidate:

– Is 18 – 26 years old
– Have valid passport or has applied for one by the application deadline (2 November 2017)
– Has strong academic progress ( has passed 80% of his/her modules for that selection year)
– Embodies the 4 GTI domains: Reflection, Empathy, Instructional Mastery and Social Responsibility
-Has demonstrated a willingness to participate and lead professional development opportunities
– Is committed to student-centred learning and social transformation
– Is comfortable in new environments and having challenging and difficult conversations
– Good physical health

The ideal External candidate:

-Is at least 18 -26 years old
– Have a valid passport or has applied for one by the application deadline (2 November 2017)
– Has proof of registration at current training institute
– Is comfortable in new environments and having challenging and difficult conversations
– Good physical health
– Has demonstrated a willingness to participate and lead professional development opportunities
– Is committed to student-centred learning and social transformation
– Has strong academic progress ( has passed 80% of his/her modules for that selection year)
-Willing to explore and learn the Four GTI domains: Reflection, Empathy, Instructional Mastery and Social Responsibility

We do receive more applications than we can take into the Exchange Programme.  As such, we will go through a video submission process, whereby we will ask shortlisted candidates to submit a video that demonstrates one of GTI’s domains, Social Responsibility.

  • We believe that Social Responsibility is an important part of development. Candidates will need to submit a video of them going the extra mile to contribute to their communities to make a difference.

  • A scanned copy of your passport or receipt of application
  • A high-resolution professional picture or headshot
  • Any necessary medical information as mentioned in your online application process
  • Proof of registration at current training institute
  • A written recommendation letter from your direct Supervisor or Chancellor on appropriate letterhead
  • TB Test Results
  • Police Clearance
