Building Back Better

As our aspiring teachers in the Future Leaders programme face the dual challenge of writing university examinations only and the opening of schools in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, we thought we would update you on the progress we have made with the help of many supporters to our Back a Buddy crowdsourcing campaign, Fund the Future.

With just over R 145 000 donated, we have raised 60% of our target to date! With these funds, over 160GB of data has been rolled out to Future Leaders to complete their Semester 1 assignments. We have distributed 28 laptops to some of our Future Leaders to ensure they can take examinations online and complete the portfolio work required for the first semester of 2020, and we have also supported our most vulnerable interns at our host schools in Diepsloot and Alexandra with food parcels and female sanitary packs in partnership with the LEAP Schools and in-kind donors.

We want to thank each of our institutional and individual donors who have helped our students face the challenges the pandemic has brought. The reality we currently face as an organization is that the communities which we serve are at risk of suffering the COVID-19 consequences most severely, and it remains a concern that this crisis could further widen the gap and increase poverty.

Help us reach our target in providing food security, procuring devices, and ensuring internet connectivity for all our 80 interns. You can donate online via http://donate.globalteachers.org, or contact us at info@globalteachers.org if you wish to make a corporate donation.

As we restore some of the time and opportunities lost in the school year, we are taking the opportunity to look at how we Build Back Better. We aim to not merely restore but use the pandemic to innovate and learn so that we continue to write a new story for education in South Africa. Thank you for walking the journey with us.
